New hemolytic uremic syndrome premium fund opens

The PAN Foundation today opened a new hemolytic uremic syndrome premium fund, providing up to $4,700 per year to help eligible patients pay for their out-of-pocket health insurance premium costs.

Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a rare condition that occurs when damaged red blood cells form clots and cause a life-threatening kidney injury. When left untreated, HUS can result in numerous complications such as chronic kidney disease, stroke, and heart problems. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases estimates that this disease occurs in about two of every 100,000 children.

“This condition, which is often diagnosed in childhood, can require a lifetime of care and costly treatment. We are thrilled to expand our support for people living with HUS to include premium assistance, which will help people pay for their insurance and access their needed medications,” said PAN Foundation President and CEO, Kevin L. Hagan. “We would not be able to provide this financial support to our patients without the generosity of our donors, for whom we are grateful. We are also proud to offer our patients support services through the National Kidney Foundation, one of our valued alliance partners.”

The National Kidney Foundation offers a patient-to-patient support program, guidance from specialists, educational resources, and more. Learn more on their website, kidney.org.

Patients who qualify are eligible to receive $4,700 in financial assistance to pay for their health insurance premiums. Learn more about PAN Foundation health insurance premium funds and other support we provide on our website.
