Wait lists

Get notified right away when a PAN disease fund opens by signing up for a wait list

How wait lists work

When a disease fund is closed at the PAN Foundation, we offer a wait list that patients can sign up for to indicate they are waiting for financial assistance. When funding becomes available, patients on the wait list can apply before the general public and grants are awarded in the order that a patient originally signed up for the wait list.

When the fund you want to apply to is closed, and you are eligible for that fund, we encourage you to sign up for the wait list and we will notify you by email when it opens again. Patients may add themselves to the wait list or be added by a provider, pharmacy, or caregiver.

Patients on the wait list get the first chance to apply for a fund when it opens, in the order that a patient originally signed up for the wait list, on a first come, first served basis. When a disease fund becomes available, we will notify those on the wait list by email to apply first, before we open the fund to the public.

Important note

Once the fund opens to those on the wait list, you must apply within the two business day wait list application period to make sure you don’t miss the application window. However, we provide grants in the order people joined the wait list, not the order that they submitted their application.

For example, if an eligible person was the first person to sign up for the wait list, but is the last to apply during the two-day wait list period, they will get the first grant awarded. If you are on the wait list, you must apply within the two business day wait list period, otherwise you will be removed from the wait list and you will not be able to receive a grant through the wait list process.

How to join a wait list

The easiest way to join a wait list is to find your disease fund on our website and check your eligibility. If you are eligible, but the fund is closed, then click to sign up for the wait list.

You must provide this information to sign up for a wait list:

  • Your diagnosis, in order to choose a disease fund
  • Your (or your patient’s) full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, home address, phone number, and valid email address to contact you
  • Providers and pharmacists will need to provide their full name, email address, or the email or another person to contact at your practice, in addition to the patient’s information

You will get an email that you’ve been added to the wait list.

Important note about email addresses

Please note that PAN sends critical wait list status messages to the email address used when signing up for the wait list. We encourage you to ensure that the email address used is checked often.

Providers and pharmacies: if your patient does not have an email address, you can provide your email address on behalf of the patient.

When a wait list opens

When a fund opens in wait list status, people on the wait list will get an email inviting them to apply in the next two business days. This email will include a link unique to the patient, and the patient’s wait list ID number. You can apply online by clicking that unique link, or call us to apply by phone. The wait list process is first-come, first-served based on the order you joined the wait list. This means that as long as you apply during the two-day wait list period, grants will be provided according to the order applicants joined the wait list. Note that signing up for the wait list is not the same thing as being eligible or applying for a grant. To be considered for a grant, you need to meet eligibility criteria and apply during the two-day wait list period.

Important note about the window to apply

The wait list period is open for a window of two business days only. At the end of two business days, we will no longer accept applications from the wait list.

Even if you are on the wait list, you must still apply for a grant during the wait list period. If you miss this window to apply, you will be removed from the wait list. If this happens and you are removed from the wait list, you can join the wait list again. We encourage you to check your email regularly, so you do not miss an important funding notification.

Applying from a wait list

Once you get the email that your fund has opened to the wait list, you must submit an application within two business days.

There are two ways to apply from the wait list, whether you’re a patient, or applying on behalf of a patient:

  1. Through your PAN Foundation portal: When you receive the invitation email, there will be a unique link. Click your unique link, and you will be directed to the provider or pharmacy portal and can continue the application process as normal on behalf of your patient. The portals are available 24/7.
  2. By phone: 1-866-316-7263, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET. Your email also includes a wait list ID for your patient. When you call us to apply, please have the wait list ID number at the ready for the representative and they will be able to help you through the application process.

After you apply

Within four business days, you will be notified by email about grant approval. If you are awarded a grant, you can begin to use that grant immediately.

If you are not awarded a grant because the funds have run out, you will stay on the wait list and you will be moved closer to the top of the list. You won’t lose your place on the wait list. You will be notified the next time your disease fund opens in wait list status.

Helping your patients with wait lists

Providers and pharmacies may also add a patient’s name to the wait list on our website, through your PAN portal account, or by calling us at 1-866-316-7263, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET.

If your patients need assistance from a closed disease fund, we encourage you to sign them up for the wait list. There is no limit on the number of patients you can sign up, though you must sign each patient up individually.

To confirm whether your patient is on a wait list, log in to your portal, select “Disease Fund Wait List,” find your fund and select “see list.” If your patient no longer needs help, notify us by sending a secure message in your portal, or call us.
