PAN’s new obesity copay fund featured by Informa’s Access Insider

The PAN Foundation’s recently launched copay assistance program for obesity medications was featured by Informa’s Access Insider. The program is the first charitable copay assistance fund to offer eligible patients help affording the copay for obesity treatments, including FDA-approved GLP-1 medications. The obesity copay fund closed within one hour of opening, a testament to the overwhelming demand for obesity copay assistance.

“We hope this fund will be a catalyst for better health outcomes by enabling more patients to start and stay on treatment,” said Alan Klein, chief growth and strategy officer for the PAN Foundation in his interview with Access Insider. “When patients have access to the therapies their providers recommend, they are more likely to adhere to treatment and achieve lasting improvements in their health. More broadly, we are also advocating for systemic solutions that will improve access, such as through expanded Medicare coverage.”

Access Insider states that about half of adults who have taken GLP-1 drugs report difficulty affording them, with 1 in 5 describing it as “very difficult,” according to research data from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

“We recognize the need is significant, and we are actively exploring ways to serve more patients,” Klein told Access Insider.
