PAN opens new insurance premium fund for people living with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria

The PAN Foundation today opened a new paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria premium fund, providing up to $4,700 to help eligible patients pay for their out-of-pocket health insurance premium costs.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), also known as Marchiafava–Micheli syndrome, is a rare disorder in which red blood cells break down prematurely, which can lead to bone marrow dysfunction and in some cases, life-threatening blood clots. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, there are between 400 and 500 cases diagnosed each year, most often in people in their 30s or 40s. Many people live with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria for decades, depending on the severity of their symptoms.

“Although this rare disease affects a small population, a diagnosis can come at a great expense,” said Kevin L. Hagan, PAN’s President and CEO. “That’s why we are honored to be launching this new assistance program and are thankful to PAN’s generous donors for making it possible.”

Patients who qualify are eligible to receive up to $4,700 in financial assistance to pay for their health insurance premiums. Learn more about PAN Foundation health insurance premium funds and other support we provide on our website.
