PAN and Alliance for Aging Research submit comments on Medicare Prescription Payment Plan materials
PAN Foundation and the Alliance for Aging Research submitted a joint letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) with feedback on the model forms and education materials related to the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (MPPP).
Feedback included concern that the 2025 roll-out has seen limited uptake and awareness by patients, despite surveys wherein half of seniors spending more than $1,000 on prescription drug out-of-pocket costs say they would likely use the program. A survey from PAN Foundation’s Center for Patient Research also found that only 25 percent of Medicare beneficiaries are aware of the MPPP, and 41 percent of those do not understand it well. The letter recommends to CMS that they look for partnerships with key stakeholders to broaden awareness of the plan and its benefits for patients.
The letter also included comments to model documents that better define and clarify language used in the program forms.
