Preserve coverage under the Affordable Care Act

PAN’S POSITION

Enhanced premium tax credits for people who get their healthcare coverage through the ACA marketplace increase access to care.

Congress must act before December 31, 2025, to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits, or an estimated 4.2 million Americans could lose coverage by 2034. Average monthly out-of-pocket costs could also increase in 2026 by 140% according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, forcing many to drop coverage altogether or shift into higher-cost plans

These enhanced premium tax credits provide vital financial assistance to low- and moderate-income individuals and families enrolled in ACA marketplace plans. The ACA has driven the national uninsured rate to historic lows and transformed care across the country through landmark patient protections that have improved healthcare outcomes and strengthened the stability of the U.S. healthcare system.
