PAN opens hypophosphatasia copay and insurance premium funds
The PAN Foundation today opened a prescription medication copay financial assistance program and health insurance premium financial assistance program for people living with hypophosphatasia (HPP). For eligible patients, the copay program provides up to $5,200 per year, while the premium program provides up to $4,800 per year in financial assistance.
HPP is an inherited, rare disorder that affects the development of bones and teeth, which can make them weaker and more prone to deformities or breaking easily. It can present in various forms depending on the age of diagnosis and the severity of symptoms. According to the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases, the prevalence of severe forms of HPP has been estimated at 1 in 100,000 while the prevalence of moderate forms of the disease is estimated to be much higher.
“While HPP is a rare disease affect a very small number of patients in the U.S., it can lead to severe consequences that impact a person’s quality of life if untreated,” said Kevin L. Hagan, PAN’s President and CEO. “We are pleased to open these critical copy and premium funds thanks to the support of PAN’s generous donors, allowing us to ease the financial burden for those living with hypophosphatasia.”
Patients who qualify for the copay program are eligible to receive up to $5,200 per year in financial assistance to pay for the deductibles, copays, and coinsurance costs associated with their treatment for hypophosphatasia. Patients who qualify for the premium program are eligible to receive up to $4,800 per year in financial assistance to pay for their health insurance premiums.
