PAN opens idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis copay fund

Today, the PAN Foundation opened a financial assistance copay program designed to help with out-of-pocket medication costs for eligible patients living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

PAN’s idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis copay assistance program provides a grant of $3,500 for out-of-pocket expenses for covered medications. If patients need more assistance within the same 12-month period and the fund is open, they can apply for additional funding, receiving up to $7,000 total per year.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a lung disease characterized by scar tissue development in the walls of the air sacs. This leads to decline in lung function, resulting in difficulty breathing. Patients typically present with shortness of breath, dry cough, and fatigue. IPF is considered a relatively rare disease, with the National Institutes of Health estimating that about 100,000 people are affected in the United States and between 30,000 and 40,000 new cases diagnosed each year.

“Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic, progressive disease that can lead to other serious lung conditions,” said Kevin L. Hagan, PAN’s President and CEO. “And treatment for this disease can be unaffordable for many. That’s why we’re excited to open this critical copay fund, thanks to the support of PAN’s generous donors, allowing us to ease the financial burden for those living with IPF. We are also grateful we can offer our patients additional support services through the American Lung Association, one of our valued alliance partners.”

The American Lung Association offers various resources, including education, advocacy, and research related to lung health. Learn more at lung.org.

“We’re grateful to PAN and its donors for opening this fund, which will help thousands of patients afford the treatment they need,” said Harold Wimmer, President and CEO of the American Lung Association. “Through our partnership with PAN, we are proud to offer additional services and resources to patients living with IPF.”
