Pan opens venous leg ulcers copay fund
Today, the PAN Foundation opened a financial assistance copay fund designed to help with out-of-pocket medication costs for eligible patients living with venous leg ulcers.
PAN’s venous leg ulcers copay assistance program provides a grant of $800 for out-of-pocket expenses for covered medications. If patients need more assistance within the same 12-month period and the fund is open, they may receive additional funding for a maximum amount of $1,600 per year.
Venous leg ulcers occur when oxygen-poor blood can’t flow from your extremities back to your heart. Instead, it pools, creating pressure in your veins and damaging skin tissue, leading to an ulcer. According to an article in the International Wound Journal, the prevalence and incidence of venous leg ulcers increase with age. A variety of factors can increase the risk of experiencing venous leg ulcers, including family history of venous disease, obesity, paralysis, and previous injury.
“If not treated properly and in a timely manner, venous leg ulcers can lead to amputation or become life threatening,” said Kevin L. Hagan, PAN Foundation’s President and CEO. “But we know that with successful treatment, people with venous leg ulcers can make a full recovery, which is why we are grateful that we can offer financial assistance to help patients get the care they need. As always, we want to thank our donors who allow us to provide these patients and their families with the financial support they deserve.”
