PAN opens new eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis copay fund

Today, the PAN Foundation opened a new financial assistance copay fund designed to help with out-of-pocket medication costs for eligible patients living with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis.

PAN’s eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) copay assistance program provides a grant of $3,700 for out-of-pocket expenses for covered medications. If patients need more assistance within the same 12-month period and the fund is open, they may receive additional funding for a maximum amount of $7,400 per year.

EGPA, formerly known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, is an extremely rare autoimmune condition involving the respiratory system. It causes inflammation in blood vessels and small masses that infiltrate the body’s tissue, especially in the lungs. EGPA develops gradually, and symptoms generally occur in phases over several years. According to Johns Hopkins Vasculitis Center, one of the cardinal features of EGPA is asthma, with other early symptoms including nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis. If untreated, EGPA can cause serious damage to organs and tissues, including chronic kidney disease, chronic respiratory failure, and congestive heart failure.

“Without a cure for this chronic, rare condition, people living with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis must rely on medications to treat their symptoms,” said Kevin L. Hagan, PAN Foundation’s President and CEO. “With effective treatment, those living with this disease can have a normal life expectancy, which is why we are grateful that we can offer these patients financial assistance to help lighten some of their burden. As always, we want to thank our donors who allow us to provide these patients and their families with the financial support they deserve.”
