Alliance for Aging Research and the PAN Foundation submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the latest model documents for implementing critical elements of the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P). The suggestions provided in the joint letter aim to ensure that Medicare patients can easily access and benefit from the policy reforms enacted via M3P. The letter urges CMS to incorporate language:
- Clearly communicating specifics of the M3P program and changes in the Medicare Part D program
- Including “charitable foundations” in each form that lists other programs that may help lower out-of-pocket costs for beneficiaries, including pharmaceutical company sponsored patient assistance programs and resources listed on Medicare.gov
- Clarifying when and how patients can rejoin the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan after being removed from the program
The joint letter also asks CMS to provide communications about re-enrolling after voluntary termination and suggests developing visual infographics about how to enroll and how the program benefits patients.
