New long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders fund opens

The PAN Foundation today is proud to open a new long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders fund, providing up to $5,600 per year to help eligible patients pay for out-of-pocket deductible, copay, and coinsurance costs.

Long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAODs), are rare, life-threatening genetic disorders in which the body is unable to break down certain fats into energy, and is characterized by chronic, severe energy deficiency. There are five LC-FAODs subtypes and most patients with the disease are diagnosed through newborn screening during infancy or in early childhood.

“Long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders are a challenging and rare disease with a high mortality rate. Patients may experience life-threatening heart and metabolic issues throughout their lives, something no child should have to experience and no parent or loved one should have to navigate,” said PAN Foundation President and CEO Kevin L. Hagan. “We open this fund today with the hope that we can enable families to focus on what matters most, rather than how to afford their out-of-pocket costs.”

Patients who qualify are eligible to receive $5,600 in financial assistance to pay for the deductibles, copays, and coinsurance costs associated with their treatment for long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders.
