Washington, DC, (March 24, 2016) - The Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation and the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) today announced that they are launching a new alliance to offer holistic support for people living with melanoma. The alliance will enable the organizations to leverage the PAN Foundation's melanoma financial assistance program and MRF's patient resources to ensure patients have access to the full range of services and support they need to best manage their disease.

“This alliance with the Melanoma Research Foundation will allow us to link patients with resources and a supportive community that will help them better understand their disease, and adhere to their treatments,” said PAN Foundation President and CEO Dan Klein. “PAN is committed to helping underinsured patients access necessary treatments. In partnering with the Melanoma Research Foundation, we are able to take that assistance a step further.”

Incidence of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, continues to rise, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Specifically, melanoma rates have doubled in the United States from 1982 to 2011.

“This partnership will allow people who are living with melanoma and receiving co-pay assistance from PAN to access the Melanoma Research Foundation’s resources so that they can better understand their diagnosis and how to manage their illness, and to connect with others,” said Melanoma Research Foundation Executive Director Timothy Turnham, Ph.D.

Patients who qualify for the PAN Foundation’s melanoma program are eligible to receive up to $15,000 per year in financial assistance. Eligible patients must reside and receive treatment in the United States, must have Medicare health insurance, and the medication for which they seek assistance must be covered by their insurance and treat the disease directly. In addition, patients must fall at or below 500 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

Patients, or advocates and caregivers applying on their behalf, can apply for assistance using the PAN Foundation’s online patient portal (www.panapply.org), or by calling 1-866-316-7263, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.
