Patient and organ survival is dependent on the use of immunosuppressant drugs. Although the combination of drugs differs from patient to patient they are always given in two phases. The first phase, called induction, carries higher doses just after the transplant surgery. The second phase is called the maintenance phase. The doses are reduced several months after the surgery to low maintenance phase levels. For more information visit the American Transplant Foundation website or call (303) 757-0959.
